You got a great idea. đź’ˇ
You built a great product. 👨‍💻
You created your website and began marketing. 📢
But you notice terrible bounce rates on your website analytics. ❌

Wondering where you went wrong? 🤔

How does web design impact your SEO?

Imagine someone searches on Google and gets thousands of results. They see your website and visit it. Fantastic!

Hold up. They try sticking around but your web site design is too complicated and so they leave the site quickly!

This is where things start going ugly. When they return back to the original SERP page to find another website that can satisfy their query, the search engine sees this as a red flag! đźš©

If your design is driving people away, your rankings will fall drastically.

Having made these mistakes ourselves throughout our journey in UI/UX, we want to share with you guys 5 web design mistakes that we corrected to improve our SEO.

Mistake 1: Loud Noises

Do not put auto-playing sounds on your website. People will quickly press the back button and leave your website. Trust us.

If audio is very crucial to the user experience you want to deliver, you can ask for permission from the users to allow audio on their devices.

Example — Check out this digital marketing page we designed recently. The moment you visit the link, you will be asked if you wish to “allow audio”. https://www.brucira.com/services/digital-marketing/

Mistake 2: Heavy Website with Slow Loading Time

Packing your website with heavy images and videos is one of the fastest ways to increase your bounce rates. <- Read it again to carefully understand.

Most people don’t have access to high speed internet and as a result, if your site is heavy, these users will drop off. They aren’t going to be patient to wait for the site to load. They’ll wait for two seconds and if it doesn’t load, well, that’s a goodbye.

Mistake 3: Too Many Pop Ups

Sure pop-ups at times can be very useful but what if you are presented with this? 👇

You need to analyze your audience carefully and ensure that you aren’t giving them multiple pop-ups. It will confuse the visitors further and drive them away from your website. Use pop-ups as and when needed, instead of using them all time.

Example — You can also try to have the header pop up that doesn’t feel as intrusive. We have done a similar thing to attract the visitor’s attention to our products ruttl and Brutask on this webpage -> https://www.brucira.com/

Mistake 4: No Mobile Optimized Website

Which device is your Go-To device for fast browsing on the internet?

Your Mobile or Your PC?

If you are a person who’s well versed with technology, you’re obvious answer would be the mobile phone. According to latest stats, roughly 55 percent of the global internet traffic comes from mobile website.

That should help you realize why mobile optimized design is crucial to your SEO success. You can’t expect people to browse the PC version of your site on their tiny screens. The text and content becomes too small to read and thus making visitors leave your website instantly!

Conclusion

Clearly, there are many more aspects beyond these pitfalls. However, the bottom line remains that your website design deeply influences the way your website ranks on the search engines results.
